Understanding Trusting God's Provision Through Modern Delivery
Food delivery services like DoorDash and Uber Eats have transformed our mainstream methods of "eating out." Ordering take out is nothing new, but having everyday citizens, not employees of the restaurant, deliver your food, is good for job creation but maybe not so good if you're a clean freak like me. If you're like me the first thing you do is check that the bag is sealed, the food looks right, and everything you ordered actually arrived. I want assurance that my meal is safe and properly prepared.

The prophet Elijah was the beneficiary of God's very own food delivery service—He didn't use a man with a cart and a compass to find Elijah. He commanded ravens to bring Elijah food twice daily (1 Kings 17:2-7). Think about that...birds...scavenger birds known for eating carrion and refuse. Yet morning and evening, these ravens delivered bread and meat to sustain God's prophet.
When God's Methods Challenge Our Expectations
If we're honest, most of us wouldn't eat food delivered by birds. We would make the case over cleanliness, the safety, the whole arrangement. But here's the truth about God's provision: He doesn't always meet our needs in ways that match our preferences or standards.
Our abundance of choices can cause us to complain about not having exactly what we want. If we're not careful we reject what God provides without realizing it. But Jesus directly addresses this attitude when He says, "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?" (Matthew 6:25). He goes on to point out how God feeds the birds of the air and clothes the fields with beauty, then asks, "Are you not of more value than they?" (Matthew 6:26).
The problem isn't that God fails to provide; the problem is that our wants have transformed into perceived needs, and we've started believing that God isn't taking care of us when He doesn't meet our self-defined standards. This requires a heart change.
Seeking His Kingdom First: The Key to Trusting God's Provision
Jesus commands us not to worry, saying, "But seek first the Kingdom of God and His Righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you" (Matthew 6:33). The promise isn't that we'll get everything we want, delivered exactly how we want it. The promise is that when we prioritize God's Kingdom and His righteousness, He will provide what we truly need.
Are you trusting God's provision? Your heavenly Father knows what you need. He may send ravens. He may use unconventional means. He probably won't use DoorDash, but He is faithful to provide.
Daily Practice: Identify one area where you've been complaining about God's provision not meeting your standards. Thank Him specifically for what He has provided in that area, even if it's not what you wanted. Ask Him to shift your heart from demanding your preferences to trusting His faithfulness.
