"Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me." ~John 15:4

Abiding in Christ Daily
"Can you hear me now?" What comes to your mind? The old Verizon commercial? Me too.
On my drive to work yesterday, I was speaking with my mom on the phone. For a minute I couldn't hear her and she couldn't hear me. That relatable marketing from years ago is still relevant today! Even with today's technology, my cell phone temporarily lost signal. The tower didn't move. I did.
Our spiritual lives work the same way. Even as we grow in faith, we can become disconnected. Not because God moved — but because we did.
In John 15, Jesus calls Himself the vine and calls us the branches. A branch doesn't generate its own life — it receives it. "If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing" (John 15:5).
That word nothing is worth noting. The branch that separates from the vine doesn't just struggle; it withers. The branch doesn't produce less fruit — it produces no fruit.
But Jesus also gives a remarkable promise to those who stay connected: "If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you" (John 15:7). This isn't a blank check — it's a picture of what happens when we're so rooted in Christ that our desires begin to align with His.
The Daily Rhythm of Abiding in Christ Daily
Staying connected looks ordinary. Reading His Word. Praying honestly. Trusting Him with what's in front of you today. The fruit comes from Him — your job is simply to be abiding in Christ daily in order to receive it.
The Father is glorified when that fruit shows up in your life (v. 8). Your connection to Jesus isn't just good for you — it points others back to God.
So today, I'm asking you the question: Can you hear Him now?
Daily Practice
Read John 15:1-8. As you read, ask yourself: What is one habit or distraction that has been pulling me out of range lately? Talk about it with God in a simple, honest prayer. You don't need the perfect words — you just need to reconnect.
